Hi. I am thinking about setting up a 8-10 week BSL programme to enable hearing people to use basic signs with Deaf signing users.  What would you consider essential BSL signs. Think about. Nursery. Schools and super markets.

hi if its for younger age id think about making it fun colours animals fingerspelling or even learning songs or stories in sign ect if its for older students I learnt things like hobbies, describing family, house, out and about ect hope this helps and good luck xxx

      Hello! My name is Katherine, I am a British-Mexican linguist, and am beginning to work as a part-time primary school teaching assistant. I also do a bit of English/Spanish translating and interpreting on the side. Growing up with 2 languages and 2 cultures, moving back and forth between countries, resulted in certain language and speech difficulties, making sign languages very attractive to me personally. I started learning Mexican sign language years ago but never continued, and upon resettling back here I am finally committed to learn sign language, and find BSL fascinating. I look forward to communicate in BSL with other students as well as within the deaf community, whom I'm very curious to meet. Cheers!

      My interest came from BSL module in uni (student paramedic) and I wanted to build on my knowledge so that I would be able to communicate with patients in the future. I also love chatting to strangers and I want to be able to do that with people who sign to!!

      I work in commercial aviation as Senior Cabin Crew.   I wanted to learn Sign Language as we carry an increasing number of persons who identify as deaf, and I think it is an invaluable skill to have from a communication point of view. Although we have ASL and BSL capabilities via electronic QR codes on board, the ability to provide that personal and human interaction is equally important.

      I work in research and want to learn BSL to enable more inclusivity within this field. I work with many different communities and find that the deaf community is too often overlooked. I want to address this and hopefully learn a lot myself and maybe gain some new friends.
