I am learning BSL because I have a two and a half year old daughter who is non verbal and deaf in one ear. This way we can start to communicate with each other.

Great this is very appreciable. I personally believe learning anything new in life is our achievement, so whether we use this language or not, we should give a try learning BSL.

Hi.

My reasoning behind wanting to learn is I work with children under 5, I am a Senco and believe that as humans we are social creatures that need communication to thrive and essential apart of being apart of a community.

I personally dislike baby sign, as it is often badly executed and would prefer BSL giving a second language given from the beginning. This would give all children a skill to except others for who they are and how they communicate, rather than seeing deaf or non verbal people as an oddity.

    • Hi, I'm a musician and artist and learning BSL to improve my communication skills and start the process of developing performances/artwork/events that are suitable and interesting for both D/deaf and hearing audiences/artists. Learning BSL online seemed like a good place to start and a way to connect with people. I co-direct an experimental sound festival based in the Midlands and we would like to develop some new work with D/deaf and hearing artists to make multi-media performances/artworks.  I

    • Hi everyone 🙂
    • I'm a student nurse and realise that some may need a nurse who understands BSL. Learning sign also encourages inclusivity and diversity. It's good to chat to people from all walks of life.
    • I have grown up with my sisters, and one is profoundly deaf so i have always been able to sign from a young age. Signing with my sister and family members has been fine and a good way of communication. However, when at work ( i work as a manager in a restaurant) i have always found it difficult to use sign with other people as i get nervous (it doesn't stop me). I would love to become more confident and one day become an interpreter so i can help people and grow my skills.
