What is the sign for Cyan?

Recommended Posts

My friend Dafid (Who is deaf)'s favourite colour is Cyan but doesn't know how to sign it, I thought I'd surprise him by finding out! Please let me know what it is, thanks x

I don't think there is one, you would finger spell c-y-a-n, you could use the sign for blue, that would be the closest actual sign. You could combine fingerspelling followed by the sign for blue straight after, that would probably be the clearest way to sign it with an actual sign.

    • Hi Dani, I am a support worker for disabled adults and BSL is used to communicate with service users that are not only deaf but those that have limited verbal communcation. Often at school they will learn a mix of BSL and makaton and will use their signs to ask for things like going to the toilet, food or activities. By knowing BSL I am able to understand their requests and help them and those that do having hearing problems I can communicate back. It also helps manage challenging behaviour because if ignored thier frustration could lead to an incident but i am able to find the problem and fix it before this happens. This in turn helps foster a positive relationship because the service users trust that I can understand and help them and feel equal and they know they have a voice (if not a literal voice). Without signing some of my SU would have no way of communicating their needs and wants. Hope this helps !  :)
    • Yes, it is the sign for 'gay'. Your friend was probably joking about with you, or wanting you to use the sign and maybe embarrass yourself. 🤔
    • Hello my name is Jemma and i have just started to learn BSL level 2. There is no were to practice in Devon so i thought i would give this a try.
    • Hello Jess, I’m Peter at 87 profoundly deaf, been attempting to learn BSL for three years, watching videos, getting nowhere! However, this year I was introduced to www.signaturelearinghub.co.uk! Now galloping ahead! Jess, take a look at www.signaturelearinghub.co.uk. I took out a one year's subscription! The study elements are great, the dictionary comprehensive! I also use for addition vocabulary, YouTube, which has lots of free BSL learning material by different BSL instructors! Wishing good progress!   Peter
    • Hello everyone, My name is Jess and I am a Primary School Teacher. In my job, I often come across children with additional needs and I'm interested to learn BSL so that I can communicate better with children who suffer from hearing loss.  I am also a languages teacher and figured that I have invested time in learning a foreign language so why not therefore invest time in learning a language as valuable as BSL? I am a little apprehensive after signing in to my new course BSL Levels one and two (which thankfully I have one year to complete) however, I am also very excited to begin a new journey and learn such an important skill.  I am a complete beginner! If you have any advice or time to practise/ things to share with me, I would be immensely grateful. Thanks and best wishes to you all. Jess.
    • Hi, I am studying Health and Social Care at a-level and for my summer homework, I have stumbled across a question I cannot find the answer to anywhere. How can British Sign Language help to build positive relationships between service users and professional care workers? I would be extremely grateful if anyone could answer this question for me. Dani.
