I'm learning BSL because ...

Recommended Posts

I decided to learn BSL as my father-in-law is very hard of hearing to the point where he is effectively deaf without his hearing aids. I have invited him to learn with me, but he is reluctant. So I am hoping to persuade him to join me as I learn more.

Additionally I love learning, but I'm terrible at learning new spoken languages. I am hoping that the added physical aspect of BSL would make this a different challenge which might stick in my head!

But why now? ... I am recovering from an operation so I thought that I would use this time to learn something new while I have some spare time in my day.

I hope to be confident enough to post a video soon.

Take care all XxX

    • Hi! I’m Emily, I was a CoDa (child of deaf adult) between ages of 5 and 12 as we used BSL at home to communicate with my stepdad who was deaf.    I recently watched a show with a deaf actress in who used ASL and it reminded me that I know quite a lot of basic BSL but I want to brush up on my skills so I can effectively communicate with any BSL users I come across! It’s also a fun hobby ☺️
