Hi, I am a counselling and psychotherapy student. I find BSL fascinating, I do struggle with learning new things, but learning BSL has been important to me as my niece and great-nephew both are hard of hearing. I also feel it is a great topic which should be taught at school from a young age, which could support more children with inclusivity.

I am learning BSL as I to am fascinated with all forms of communication, I feel that it should be taught in school from an early age to give all children the tools necessary to be more inclusive of others with a hearing impairment, I also work in a special needs school as an intervenor within a deaf blind class I have a very basic knowledge of BSL and other forms of communication and am trying to further my knowledge to support more students.

Hi! I have been adding to my sign portfolio starting this weekend. I learnt the basics from a deaf friend when I was in high school and have wanted to learn more ever since. So here I am! I’m a teacher & I’m so pleased that BSL is being added to the curriculum.

    • Hi everyone. Name me what, Jeff. I've been basic signing for about 10 years now after getting a basic lesson from the company that I used to work for. My aim now, is to become fully competent within BSL and gain a qualification, and then look for any kind of employment that relates to BSL.

    • Hello everyone. I am incredibly new to BSL (I've had one class at introductory level so far but I intend to pursue). I am 48 and I am experiencing some hearing loss but really I want to learn to sign to give myself more communication options and to be able to communicate with as many people as I can.
    • Hello everyone, For my introduction to British Sign Language training, I am to post here my reasons to why I am dedicated to learn BSL. My previous role was a teaching and learning assistant at a secondary school and my current role is an art instructor in a day service for adults with learning difficulties. I also volunteer with the NHS doing art sessions with long term patients. After my BA Fine Art course at the Open University, I wish to apply for a masters MSc in Art Therapy. I fe
    • Hello! I am very new here and I would like recommendations of online BSL courses where I can learn online in the evening. Cost isn’t an issue but it needs to be money well spent.  For context, am a lifelong hearing aid wearer with no BSL knowledge apart from finger spelling the alphabet… slowly.    Thanks in advance.
    • Hi there  Name we what - Michelle...I have a hearing loss and wear cross aids. Hearing is tricky in many situations such as shops, restaurants and busy places. I am learning BSL with my adult daughter, so that we can sign together when hearing is tough. It will definitely help in fitness classes where, with the air conditioning and music I can barely hear instructions.  We are looking to connect with others to help me learn and embed signs. Please do connect with us.  Mrs Mi :)
    • Name me what Lewis - I've just started and I'm loving it - such a beautiful language. I decided to learn BSL for no other reason than I liked the thought of it, plus it's a language spoken in our country, so seems strange to not know it. I am also starting to go deaf in one ear, so maybe there's some pre-emptive learning happening too in case I lose my hearing completely. Nice to be here.
