Oh but why ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This is very similar (well cut and paste actually) to my "introduce myself" post.

I was born deaf but it turns out it wasn't permanent as I was just all blocked up in the ear-nose-throat department.  As such I still find myself lip-reading as I was 6 years old when my tonsils and adenoids were removed and giving my hearing back. (i'm over the hill now at 40) but still love the idea of learning.

    • Hey folks, 😄   I'm Carly,  I'm nearly 25 and probably like a lot of you, figured whilst stuck in a lock down? What better time to learn sign language! I've been meaning to learn for a long time as I am profoundly deaf and lip-reading is how I communicate 90% of the time. I started losing my hearing when I was about 4/5 and then lost the majority of my hearing when I was 12. Something got stuck down my right ear and went unnoticed by doctors and the like, so cut to 12 months later and i

    • Hi everyone! I'm Emma, 17 and I have always wanted to learn sign language. I just think it's so beautiful and mesmerizing to watch, plus it could come in handy one day! I've just started the online course whilst under isolation and am a little intimidated! It's a lot to remember but I'm loving it (especially loving the sign for Scotland - makes me giggle every time, anyone else think of Ross from Friends playing the  bagpipes when they do it?) . Anyway, hoping to learn more about the deaf c
    • Hi Rosie, I'm Emma, I'm in a similar situation except studying Health and Social Care - always wanted to learn so I'm so happy I finally have the chance!
    • Hi everyone,  My name is Louisa, I am 33 years old and have just started learning BSL having been inspired taking Baby Sign classes with my now 10 month old. I work as a spoken voice coach and feel it would be a fascinating area to explore with the deaf/hearing impaired community. I also think the language is fascinating and I've loved learning even basic things to use through baby sign so wanted to learn lots more. Will be really up for finding others at a similar stage with the train
    • Hello! My name is Kiah and I am 24 years old. I am a secondary school teacher and I thought what a valuable skill it would be to learn for my settings. I am enjoying the course so far and can't wait to learn more.
    • Hello My name is Rhiannon and I am here to learn BSL as it is the only language i have ever wanted to learn. I work in the social care sector and I think that it would be beneficial in my career.
