Hi all, 

I'm new to bsl, and currently completing my level 1 & 2 bsl. I'm enjoying learning new signs everyday, but I don't get any opportunities to use them! 

Would anyone be interested in video calling once/twice a week for an hour to practice signed conversations?

That’s a great idea! There are several ways to find a BSL online buddy:

  1. Facebook Groups – Look for groups like BSL Learners UK or BSL Practice Buddies.

  2. Discord Servers – Some communities have BSL practice channels.

  3. Meetup.com – Check for virtual BSL meetups.

  4. BSL Video Chat Apps – Apps like The Limping Chicken (a Deaf news site) sometimes share community meetups.

  5. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Charities – Organizations like Signature or RNID might have buddy programs.

      Hello everyone!   I'm Natalia, I'm currently doing LVL2 BSL and looking for people to practice with.    I started to learn BSL after meeting a profoundly deaf student (I'm a driving instructor) and I (and He) didn't like to communicate via messages or speech to text apps.    I found BSL was better way to communicate, gave more confidence to my student and since then I found, I really enjoy to learn more.   Hopefully with more time and effort I can become fluent in the future.

      Hiya, my name's Ash and I've wanted to learn BSL for years now and after looking up random signs on the internet I thought doing a proper course sounded good so I started a beginners course. I am not deaf myself but I am also known for my questionable hearing as I sometimes find it tough to hear what others are saying, especially in a loud area, I also have a deaf grandmother but she does not sign. I've always enjoyed using non verbal forms of communication as sometimes I find it a bit tough to express myself verbally, being neurodivergent. I hope to be able to use this to practice with people and talk to people who also want to learn as there are no in person groups anywhere near me, living in a very rural part of Britain.       Hi, I hope I’m doing this right? I’m brand new to BSL. I am disabled and use a wheelchair and I’ve noticed that some deaf people appear to approach me feeling safer or more understood in a group, to find someone else with disabilities or impairments. Please do correct me of I use the wrong language? But it has spurred me on to learn BSL as I do believe it should be a language offered at school and I am disappointed to see examination boards reject the idea. I thought I should put my effort where my mouth is and learn it myself. I am finding it great fun and very intuitive! Unlike Greek or Spanish languages I’ve learned in the past!  Thank you all for being here. ☺️
