Why I'm learning BSL

Recommended Posts

I am hard of hearing and wear hearing aids, I also have APD and tinnitus and lip read, however i can hear aided so i dont particulary need to learn, however, i always wonder what would happen in public if a deaf person were to need help and nobody knew sign. I started learning at 17 just because i could but overtime I really wanted to learn properly. My 2 year old nephew is non verbal and so is learning basic signs to communicate his needs, so im learning sign enough to converse aswell as teach him (which he is picking up really well like me)

I’m learning BSL because I want to connect with the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. As someone who is hard of hearing myself, I believe communication should be accessible to everyone. I also want to make new friends and be part of a more inclusive world.
