Hi there.  I live in Michigan and yes, we do use our hand to show where we live or where another town is.

It's a rather convenient map since it is always with you.  😂

I have an amazing husband of 25 years, 8 children, 2 granddaughters, a silly chiweenie, and a black cat.

My mom and brother are hard of hearing.  My mom has a cochlear.

Decades ago I took an SEE class.  The school system was offering it to families of students that were deaf or hearing impaired.  I say it that way, because that was the school systems mindset on the topic.

Hi Karenb, I see you learned SEE a long time ago... Do you know ASL? If you are new to it, I can help! If you know some basic conversation, then we can practice! Let me know if you'd like to video chat or something. 🙂

Hello,

I do know some ASL.  I know that some signs from SEE crossover.  And of course "baby sign" is it's own pidgen of both.

I am interested in learning more ASL signs along with the language itself.  

I would be to happy to chat with you.

      Hi everyone! I'm a hearing husband with a deaf wife, and I'm a retired electrician and safety instructor. I know some sign language, but I'm hoping this site will help me improve my skills and support others in our local fire department. Although there aren't many deaf people in my community, I have many deaf friends from different places. We always have a great time together, and they're wonderfully patient while teaching me new signs! I'm excited to be here, learn more, and connect with everyone.       My name is Leah and I started learning ASL to help people communicate where there are language barriers. For instance: I just started volunteering at a nature center and I hope that one day I'll be able to help someone connect there. I'm also applying for a job at my local YMCA for the Member Services desk. It would be great to help the deaf and hard of hearing community connect there also. I'm very excited about learning ASL. I love helping people. 😊

      I am taking my first class of ASL at a local community college.   I am hearing.  The teacher is Deaf and fantastic.   The language is beautiful.   I am learning because I have 3 neuro-divergent kids and I think this would be a good way to connect with them.
