My name is Destiny, and I'm new here!  I know extremely little ASL at the moment (I sometimes mess up parts of the alphabet, embarrassingly...), but I know a few signs.  I am not deaf, but I am hard of hearing, and due to PTSD there are times when I become effectively mute.  So, other than thinking it would be cool to learn an awesome life skill/new language, I think it would really benefit me on a personal level to learn ASL.  Plus, it could help me make so many wonderful new friends!  I hope that it's alright that I join you all here.

Hello, my name is Tracy and I am currently in ASL class in college. I am a beginner and trying to learn at the same pace as college kids. I have learned but not perfected the alphabet, introductions signs, and some one word vocabulary items. One of my assignments is to interact in one of these chat rooms to learn some sign language outside of the classroom. Since I am such a beginner, I feel it will be difficult to carry any conversation.

hello Tracy. I'm glad you decided to start learning asl. I have been learning for a little while. I'll be in the chat rooms on this site for the next hour, if you or anyone else is interested in a video chat go ahead and join in. :)

      Hi everyone! I'm a hearing husband with a deaf wife, and I'm a retired electrician and safety instructor. I know some sign language, but I'm hoping this site will help me improve my skills and support others in our local fire department. Although there aren't many deaf people in my community, I have many deaf friends from different places. We always have a great time together, and they're wonderfully patient while teaching me new signs! I'm excited to be here, learn more, and connect with everyone.       My name is Leah and I started learning ASL to help people communicate where there are language barriers. For instance: I just started volunteering at a nature center and I hope that one day I'll be able to help someone connect there. I'm also applying for a job at my local YMCA for the Member Services desk. It would be great to help the deaf and hard of hearing community connect there also. I'm very excited about learning ASL. I love helping people. 😊

      I am taking my first class of ASL at a local community college.   I am hearing.  The teacher is Deaf and fantastic.   The language is beautiful.   I am learning because I have 3 neuro-divergent kids and I think this would be a good way to connect with them.
