ASL Dataset

Hello!

My name is Kyle Gagnon. I am a junior in university. My major is Computer Science. Now the introduction is out of the way I need your help!

Why am I here?

I need help developing a software that can begin to recognize American Sign Language. The goal of the project as of now is to recognize the Alphabet. I want to make it an app so that it is available for everyone to use. I understand that there are plenty of programs and apps out there but I want to make one my own and improve upon it.

What do I need?

As of now I have a very limited dataset. What that means is I do have some pictures to help teach the computer what the sign is but it is very limited. There will be a very rare case where somebody's hand will be highlighted in a dark room. So I need pictures from everyone of the alphabet in sign. I do have a small criteria on how I need it to be done.

Criteria

I need you to take a picture of either hand (can be your dominant or not) and take a picture of it (I will attach an example). Preferably a well enough lit room but doesn't have to be. It does not have to be center at all. I just need your hand in whatever shape you make. If you can do all 26 letters please. If you only do one anything helps at all! You do not need any editing on the picture just leave it as is! Again the picture I attached is to show kind of what I need.

I want to thank you for your time for reading this! I wish you all the best!

    • When searching for a good calculator app, specifically one that can handle calculations like the pythagorean theorem calculator angle https://calculatorprofessional.com/pythagorean-theorem-calculator, look for apps with high user ratings and robust features. Read reviews to see if other users mention its accuracy and usability for trigonometric calculations. This approach will help you find a reliable and user-friendly Pythagorean theorem calculator for angles.
    • Hi! I just started ASL today with great interest. As of now, I only know the basics including the alphabets, numbers 1-20, a few colors, and pronouns. Although I will only be learning on my free time, I still hope that I will be able to make friends here and learn together with them! 💙
