My name is Immarni and I’ve always wanted to learn sign language. I think it’s an important life skill to know and wish it was taught in schools.

As I am HoH and even with hearing aids I have difficulty understanding people. So I’m learning to help myself and hopefully I can teach my partner and friends. Hopefully eventually I can find more people like me.

Hi I’m Ami-May. I am HoH.. severe hearing loss in left ear and profoundly deaf in right ear. I wear hearing aids. I’m learning BSL for myself so I can communicate better with my partner and friends and hopefully they learn along side me.

Hi ! Iam Karen , I would like to join your forum and possibly work with some other people. I decided to do BSL because I needed to exercise my hand and I wanted to do something that was more interesting than just exercising, and I thought BSL might help me with someone if they were deaf.

Years ago I employed a deaf lady who taught me how to finger spell. I never forgot it and could remember it years later. I always wanted to learn more but I have no need for it as such as I don’t know anyone who is deaf. I’m embarrassed to say I can’t really speak any other language than a bit of German, so I’ve decided I need a second language and I’ve chosen BSL. My colleague is learning it too so we can practice with each other. I would love to join up with other learners too!

Hi I have been learning BSL for 3 years. I recently completed exams in December and January with my Signature approved centre. Before the receptive exam, we sit in the room (which is not appropriately laid out for a fair exam for everyone anyway) and before we start the exam, the teacher spends about 10 minutes going through a list of signs and their corresponding English words that will appear throughout the receptive exam to help us. Is this cheating?? Does anyone else experience this? It kind of defeats the purpose of a receptive skills exam. And It's not part of the exam conduct anywhere in the exam specification.

My name is Sharron and i am 55 years old. I have 2 absolutely gorgeous grandsons, the second of which was born with Microtia and has been diagnosed as severely deaf. We have been lucky that this diagnosis came within a few weeks of him being born and he has already been fitted with cochlear' s which made an instant difference. i have decided to learn BSL so I can communicate with my grandson on all levels and I'm enjoying it immensely. Thanks for your time and I look forward to reading all your comments and tips for the future.

Hello, I am available to practice online I am currently a part time one day a week Intensive Saturday , BSL , L1 student.. Online group practice works well. I am available during the week on days and weekends during the day time

Hello I have just registered on Signature to guide me through my part time, Saturday morning BSL, L1 course. Most of the class is half my age and prefer to practice all over London and What's App. The college does not offer a year 2 buddy / peer support. We are advised to practice using YouTube or apps. But these tools do not offer reflective learning . Does anyone know what difference between the BSL Homework 1, 2 & 3 ? All three BSL Homework are priced differently but the description suggest they offer the same I may purchase the cheapest Storm Rae

Can we arrange 5 to 6 for practice. I am learning level 1

Greetings to all! My name is Wendy & I am a nurse. My mam is hard of hearing & has bilateral BAHA's. The BAHA's totally changed her life. Before they came along she would wear a hearing aid in both ears & she constantly had ear infection after infection. Her ENT specialist informed her that what little hearing she did have would be gone in a few years. He said to learn lip reading or BSL. She chose lip reading but didn't want to go on her own to the weekly sessions, so I accompanied her. That was 1992. Fast forward to 1996 & her ENT specialist told her about Bone Anchored Hearing Aids. The literally changed her life! So, I'm a nurse who can lip read but I wanted to learn some BSL so I could at least say to a hearing impaired patient "hello, my name is Wendy & I am a nurse". Thanks to this course I can do that now. It's a great course!

Hello, I'm just starting on my BSL course journey. I'm wondering if there is relevance to which side of your body you might place a hand sign, or relevance to which direction you might move your hand? Having just started the course, I have the following questions from the Colour section, for example. 1: With the sign for "silver" - when your hands break from the "S" - does it matter if your dominant hand is the one going up or down? I see in the video that the dominant hand goes up, but does it matter? With this particular sign, it feels more natural for the dominant hand to go down for me - I am wondering if this would be confusing? 2: With the sign for "white", I see in the video that you make the sign on the same side of your chest as your hand. Can the sign be made with your dominant hand on the opposite side of your chest - or does this mean something else or would it be confusing? I almost find this sign awkward to do on the same side of my chest as my arm! 3: With the sign for "colour" - does it matter if you circle clockwise or anticlockwise? Thank you to anyone who might answer... it will help me to progress correctly 😁
