  1. Hi, I’m trying to learn more BSL. I learned a little as a kid, but never had the confidence to take it further. I’m training to work as a social worker and volunteer at events, so would like to be able to communicate with more people.

  2. Hi all, My name is Emily. I'm 19 years old and live in North Wales. I'm currently in the process of completing the "introducing british sign language" course via British-sign.co.uk I haven't grown up or been around anyone who is deaf or used sign language as much, but i do have a friend that had lost her hearing since she was a child as she become ill and she has only just recenly been able to hear things again as she was given an operation that changed everything for her. I got into learning sign language since i started in a further education college back in 2016, i was a childcare student and we learnt a bit of sign language back then and i got so into it i told myself i wanted to learn it when i was a bit older. being 19 now and have a job in a primary school i thought it would be worth it to gain a new qualification and be able to learn something new and growing up only seeing my mum's friend roughly twice every year and seeing her being able to do it, i got very interested in it and i wanted to do something like that with a child. Thats me

  3. My name is Rachel. I have started an online course for the introduction of BSL completed the first module. I do work in theatre and often work with people with addition needs. I have always had an interest in BSL but I have Cerebral Palsy and often wondered how doable it is. I really enjoyed completing the first module today.

  4. Hi there Decided to learn how to sign to help me in my job role as a Carer. we sometimes come across clients in the community who have a hard time communicating because they are deaf and most people cannot understand sign language so thought it would be a good skill to have.

  5. Hi there everyone hope you are all well and keeping safe. I have always wanted to learn to sign and watching our First Minister of Scotland every day she has a sign language person behind her and I'm fascinated about how they can translate so quickly. I am also at the moment going deaf and finding it hard to hear people on the phone and on zoom chats. So i thought as i'm going deaf why not try to learn sign language during lockdown. So i am here learning a new skill.

  6. Good evening all, I hope you are all safe and well. I have started the BSL course as it has always been something I wanted to learn due to having family members and friends who are hard of hearing or deaf. Most of them can lip read but I wanted to give people the option of how we chatted. I work for a large corporation and no one in the company signs and we have many people coming through, some who have wanted to sign but there was no one available and that's when I decided to look into courses and found BSL. This course has been informative and have recommended it to family. During lockdown it has been the perfect time to learn and use the old noggin so it doesn't stop working! Would love to chat and maybe video others who want to practice or have a conversation ( I am only on Animals, home, clothing and school but thought would give it a go. Take care all :)

  7. Hello everyone, I am Sally and I live in Tunbridge Wells in Kent. I work in retail for a large, well known High Street retailer, not just any High Street retailer I am currently on furlough leave and wanted to use the time to learn something, I have always be intrigued sign language so here I am. In the store department where I work, we have a young gentleman who has Treacher Collins Syndrome and is both deaf and dumb. He communicates quite well with us all and has the help of an interpreter a couple of days during the week. It will be brilliant to be able to communicate with him more and also maybe teach a few of my colleagues a few of the basics.

  8. Hi, my name is Kate and I am learning BSL during lockdown when I am not required in school. I am more than happy to do this in case it will help support any of our children, but also because I was born partially deaf but nobody realised until I was in my late 40s so was never taught any listening skills. Age is worsening my hearing and so this could be very beneficial to me in the future.
