  1. Afternoon all, I have 70% loss both ears but as others mentioned didn't realise how much I relied on lip-reading and reading peoples facial expressions until we started all wearing masks. The last two years with COVID have left me feeling very isolated so I figured it would be a good idea to learn BSL and I am enjoying it very much.

  2. Hi, I’m Danny and I’m very new to this. Although I have an extremely difficult time learning languages I am determined to learn BSL. I would appreciate any help that comes my way 😊

  3. Hi Danny, welcome I have not learned as much as I would have liked to - started a few months ago - but I find that when I have had a gap in learning BSL doing a few fingerspelling games really helps

  4. Like many folk I find myself starting to learn BSL too late in life. I have been deaf in one ear for 50 years but still didn't do anything about learning BSL! Unfortunately as a (rare) consequence of major surgery I have now been left with no voice - or at best a soft whisper - so, for instance, talking to my wife in a busy restaurant is impossible. We have both started trying to learn BSL - it is very slow, but that may be an age thing!!!! Keep reminding myself that climbing a mountain is a sequence of small steps...so here goes.

  5. Hi. My Name is Ben and I've been studying for just 2/3 days now. Its come quite quickly to me however learning signs for jobs and places is much harder than everything else before. I decided to learn sign language as I saw a YouTube video of a guy trying to buy from a shop and the way he was treated was outrageous, even if I never get a chance to use my new skills im glad I Decided to take the course.

  6. Hi everyone, I'm Dawne and this is my second time round learning BSL, I did this course back in 2018 and really enjoyed it. I had recently started wearing hearing aids (back in 2018) and realised how much my hearing was a barrier for me. This got me thinking of learning BSL (in case my hearing ever got worse). I really enjoyed the course but once I finished it I didn't put it into practise! I have re signed to the course as it will be part of my professional development at work. I work in a primary school and want to be confident (and able) to communicate with children in a non verbal way
