Hello my name is Lydia.  I found this site a few days ago but not many people seem to reply to each other.   I have passed level 1 and just started level 2.  Due to first teacher just teaching vocab I am behind with learning placement and sentence structure. I know I won't be a natural but have been bitten with wanting to learn! Please could anybody spare me time or good advice !

Hi Lyd,

 

I'm in the same situation, looking to get more involved. Passed Level 1, on level 2. Happy for any BSL interaction.

What area are you and where do you study? Have you started going to any deaf clubs, because that is something I need to get involved with now.

Thanks for replying hope you are having a lovely Christmas too.  

I have started level two with a much better teacher but feel a don't have anybody to practice with.  I need help on how to THINK SIGN before i move my hands instead of thinking English first.  I live in the Blackburn area of |Lancashire.  I have been to ELDS Coffee mornings mixing with very patient deaf people.!

      My interest came from BSL module in uni (student paramedic) and I wanted to build on my knowledge so that I would be able to communicate with patients in the future. I also love chatting to strangers and I want to be able to do that with people who sign to!!

      I work in commercial aviation as Senior Cabin Crew.   I wanted to learn Sign Language as we carry an increasing number of persons who identify as deaf, and I think it is an invaluable skill to have from a communication point of view. Although we have ASL and BSL capabilities via electronic QR codes on board, the ability to provide that personal and human interaction is equally important.

      I work in research and want to learn BSL to enable more inclusivity within this field. I work with many different communities and find that the deaf community is too often overlooked. I want to address this and hopefully learn a lot myself and maybe gain some new friends.
