I am mostly here for the same reasons.  I am learning through a few classes online, and I'm taking a class this fall at my local community college.  So I need people to practice with.  I belong to a Glide group that is for practicing.  There are few people on there who are learning to become interpreters and there are a few deaf people there as well.  Though they don't tend to contribute as much.  One guy who seems to help them most is a CODA.  Let me know if you want to join the group, I can add you.

Yeah.  It's an app for your smartphone.  You have to have a decent camera.  The app should be in whatever phone you uses app download program.  It's called Glide.  Just download it and it will set up a username or have you create one.  Androids seem to force a ridiculous username on you.  Download the app and you can find a couple different groups to chat with.  Facebook has a few groups for beginner ASL users who want to sign with each other.  I'm part of a practice group, though we're closing in on our 50 member max.

You can add me on Glide and I'll try to add you when we get space.  @GAEHIWB

Just make sure that when you add me or you message me that you put that you are from this forum.  I get random messages from spam on there sometimes.  It helps me differentiate real people from fake.

Hello! I am India. I am learning ASL because I am a ER nurse and I think it would be helpful to be able to communicate better with my patients who are deaf or hard of hearing. I would love to have someone to practice with!

    • ❤️ Welcome, James! Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself — it’s amazing how much you’ve accomplished on your own. Learning ASL independently takes real dedication. I’m glad you found this space and hope it gives you lots of opportunities to connect and practice. Wishing you the best on your journey! 😊 If you’d like something extra to practice with, here are some simple, beginner-friendly ASL conversations 👉 https://ablelingo.com/t/simple-asl

    • How'd y'all, my name is James, but generally I go by JE. I am a deaf / hard of hearing individual in New York State. I was raised in an oral school and home, it was hard but I learned. I didn't even know now ASL, or schools for the Deaf existed until I was in my 20's. I am a mechanic by profession and work in an industrial laundry. I have self-taught myself ASL, but don't get much chance to utilize or practice it. I am hoping that will all change here. I look forward to learning and growing here, if you know of any other deaf chat platforms please do share. God Bless you all!
