Hello & Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I just recently joined this forum thinking it might be a great way to get better at ASL. I took a few basic ASL courses years ago in college, but never followed through with interpreting aspirations (cause of, ya know, life). After years of thinking about the missed opportunity, I put my foot down and now trying to go back to school for interpreting. I am still a beginner, but love learning and experiencing both the language and Deaf culture.

I hope to get to signing with you all at some point. Until then, keep on keepin' on and stay safe out there 🤘

I am sitting in a chat room while doing the fingerspelling game..  hoping someone will drop in and join me to practice some signing.  Also just learning how these posts work.  Its not all clear to me yet.  Testing to see if this will show up in the right display panel under "posts".

Hi there Alex. Absolutely, getting to actually practice conversational sign rather than just by Youtube would be great. I'd love to see if we can setup a video chat sometime. and same for you, Lauren and Aspenlea.

I don't have a Zoom just yet, but got an old Skype account if those platforms are better than the video chat on the site.

Let me know your guys' thoughts, and nice to meet you!

    • Getting motivated is difficult but not impossible. To stay motivated is hard especially when a person is stressed out about one of the many things going on in his life. Below are few ways which talks about how to motivate yourself. Starting small if big leads to procrastinating: Breaking a big task into small parts and taking baby steps to achieve it avoid procrastination. Getting motivated from the people in your life: Spending more time with positive people than negative ones, so that their positive energy flow over to you. Playing music makes you energized: Listening to music can uplift mood and inspires a person in some way. Being optimistic: Pessimism can drain out both motivation and energy. The positive and constructive way of looking at things can energize and recharge your motivation. Creating a positive mindset: Positive thoughts helps a person to stay motivated and stay energized. Creating a feeling of gratitude: One of the easiest ways to feel good about yourself is to practice gratitude. You can practice gratitude by writing gratitude journal and making this a part of daily habits. Setting attainable goals that excites you: Letting go of big goals, instead choosing exciting goals that helps you stay motivated, but not so big that you makes you anxious when facing them. Eliminating distractions mercilessly: Distractions are the biggest enemy of focus. If you want to stay motivated, you have to eliminate distractions from life. Working on what you want in long term and thinking about positive things boosts motivation. Reminding yourself of why you are working toward this goal: The feeling of unmotivated and low energy leads to losing sight of your goals. So taking few minutes and writing down your top reasons for doing this work and putting that note where you can see it every day boosts motivation.
    • Hello! Is someone available to practice. I am a beginner in Sign Language
    • listen why don't one of you not just make a comment but give a name. if you understand the naming convention then make your own. tentatively you could want to be called something. then people may approve but communities using this type of reference need to use a point of entry and that would be tribalism as the easiest like gang naming and they could mean how you would belong in a group so find what you do best and you find what people call those and you will then get a variant of the word as a name. this could also generate a list of possible names and it could entail status so look up the value of the variants and use one for yourself, or make it so you earn it to them.
    • Hello All!!! My name is Kim, and I am just starting out on my ASL learning journey. I have always been pulled to learn ASL. I am not hearing impaired and do not know anyone personally who is, however I desire to connect with all and ASL I feel is my calling. I desire to learn, advocate and fully immerse my self in the culture in hopes of building true friendships and alliances.    Be inspired and inspire! xoxo KIM 💜
