Good learning advice

Recommended Posts

Hello my name is Lydia.  I found this site a few days ago but not many people seem to reply to each other.   I have passed level 1 and just started level 2.  Due to first teacher just teaching vocab I am behind with learning placement and sentence structure. I know I won't be a natural but have been bitten with wanting to learn! Please could anybody spare me time or good advice !

Hey Lydia, first of all don't give up on it because of whats happened, its their fault and they will have to live with it.

Keep going.

I'm self taught and want to continue but am currently unable to for the next few months but from what i can see from the replies you have gotten you have lots of people including me who will give what help we can.

    • Within the Deaf community you probably wouldn't use the diagnostic terminology but would tend to describe the symptoms. Having said that there are signs for psychosis, schizophrenia, anxiety and many other mental health related words/terminology but these might not be well known and used. Have a look at the attached, it's from a very old book and as I said, many BSL users won't be familiar with them. Mental Health Signs.wmv
    • Hi everyone, I am a total newbie to learning BSL. I attended a Deaf Awareness short course many years ago as I have always been interested in learning BSL.  Finding local courses has been a challenge and I was booked to attend a course in Bath - it was postponed twice due to low numbers, then when it did finally run, I wasn't working and so couldn't put the funds aside (it costs around £300 for Level 1).  it's a shame as I felt I would benefit from attending an actual course where I could interact with others learning at the same pace as me. I finally decided that I needed to take a better look at what was available online, so that I could at least make a start on learning.  I liked the idea of Skype Tutorials which one of the other sites offer, but again their courses are very expensive. If anyone is a total newbie like me and would like a practice buddy, then give me a shout :o) Lexy

    • Hi My Name is Olive. I am a new Teacher of the Deaf. I am partially deaf and I am currently learning level one and two.  I would be happy to practice with level one and two learners.
    • Hello everyone! I have recently gotten into BSL and I have just started level 3 today (I'm a quick learner so if we practice together I might end up being just a bit ahead, but I don't mind!) I live in America (Texas to be exact) so I don't have anybody to practice with. I am free most days which means your afternoons and evenings. I would love to use Skype to practice with and I don't mind using something else if the need arose. Thank you!!!
    • Hello! I started level 3 today! I would love to practice with you! I have Skype. Although I am in America. I look forward to your response! Have a lovely day/night!
