Hello,

A bit about me: I'm 27. I have been studying BSL on my own for just under two months. My vocabulary is about 325 words + the alphabet. I would love to take a public class to further my skills (especially grammar!), but here's the catch: I live in japan! O.o

So I'm looking for someone who has advanced level BSL to meet with once a week over Skype for lessons.  I am more than happy to pay for the private tutoring.

Would anyone here be interested in this, or know of a resource to find an online tutor?  Japan and UK timezones match up so that we could meet in the UK-morning/Japan-evening.

:) Thanks!

I forgot to mention, I am hoping to learn London BSL.  I know some signs tend to vary by area, so hoping to learn the signs which are most prominent around London. Thank you~~

Hello to Japan. Quite interesting that you study Bsl in Japan; why not Japanese Sign Language?
I am looking for Skye sessions, too. I have been attending an Introduction Course in Edinburgh and therefore we mainly learn Scottish signs. I want to continue with Level 1 in August and eventually L2 in Feb 2020, but it's very expensive :o

Have a look on Youtube at 'BSL learning with Mel' - she's a BSL tutor from the south-east and as well as doing the videos she says she does 1-to-1 Skype Tuition. Her videos are great.

Hi I have also followed Mel on YT, yes she has one of the best YT BSL sites with an array of subjects and new learning videos out each week, she is also great for questions and answers.

    • Hi, I'm Jason and I'm a student at uni : I'm learning BSL so I can communicate with and understand the deaf community more! I'm hoping to get a really good knowledge of BSL while I'm here.

    • My interest came from BSL module in uni (student paramedic) and I wanted to build on my knowledge so that I would be able to communicate with patients in the future. I also love chatting to strangers and I want to be able to do that with people who sign to!!
    • I work in commercial aviation as Senior Cabin Crew.   I wanted to learn Sign Language as we carry an increasing number of persons who identify as deaf, and I think it is an invaluable skill to have from a communication point of view. Although we have ASL and BSL capabilities via electronic QR codes on board, the ability to provide that personal and human interaction is equally important.
    • I work in research and want to learn BSL to enable more inclusivity within this field. I work with many different communities and find that the deaf community is too often overlooked. I want to address this and hopefully learn a lot myself and maybe gain some new friends.

    • Hello both.  I’m also happy to practise some BSL, as with anyone on the site. Feel free to send me a message!
