      Hi my name is Mamie and I'm 39 year old returning college student at NVCC. I am on my third semster of ASL but need a lot of practice and actually joined this forum hoping to meet people and get some practice in. I needed a language for my degree but chose asl as I have a family member who though I don't get to see often would love to be able to communicate with better. It's nice to meet everyone and if anyone would like to get together and practice or just chat please let me know.

      Hi! I'm a writer who loves realism and going down rabbit holes. I have a character with selective mutism and want to learn sign language in order to better portray signing in my story. Also, learning in general is fun and knowing multiple languages is useful.  Any advice on exploring and learning the language would be appreciated!

      Why am I learning ASL

      That’s a great reason to start learning ASL. Having a practice partner would definitely help, especially with getting more comfortable with reading signs and keeping up with a real conversation. It’s also nice that you want to learn because you’ve had situations where communication was difficult. Just keep practicing and don’t worry about being perfect at the beginning—everyone starts somewhere. spin mama
