Hi. I am 34 years old and have been profoundly deaf since 6 months old, but have never learnt sign language so I am taking my chance to now. I live in Wales and work as a vet near Liverpool. I have only just started doing an online course, although I am familiar with fingerspelling. Are there any BSL groups or evening classes in Oswestry, Powys or Neston (Wirral) that anyone can recommend? Thanks Chris

Hello, my name is Helen and I have become progressively more hard of hearing since I was 42 (I'm now 61). I wear aids in both ears and am aware that I may become profoundly deaf, so I have begun to learn BSL. I am an instrumental tutor so this raises some challenges but I teach one-to-one so can manage quite well at present. I am just completing a five week introduction to BSL with my daughter - which is great because we can practice together! Mainly I become frustrated with my inability to absorb new signs as fast as I would like...but I expect that applies to most people. By co-incidence I have a deaf from birth dog who I have taught various signs and he responds very well! Just wanted to ask whether anyone here who is doing BSL has found a club locally where they have gone to make friends and practise signing - it seems to be a recommendation for doing Level 1.

Hi. I’m sharna. I wear hearing aids as I am hard of hearing and because of that I’ve always wanted to learn bsl but the courses are very expensive and I tried with just an online course but then I couldn’t practice with people which is what I want (otherwise it’ll be like in one ear and out the other but about eyes instead of ears. Also - I made an ear joke haha - not wanting to offend anyone by that though If you can’t laugh...) I really want it as a second language to the point of I can do it without much thought like I do with English. And hopefully I’ll make friends. Nice to meet you all
