  1. Hi there! My name is Bethany, and like many of you, I have decided to take the plunge and begin learning BSL during this period of lockdown! I will be graduating this summer with a degree in Psychology and want to use this to start a career in teaching. One of my final year modules focused on Autism Spectrum Disorder, and confirmed to me that I want to work with SENDS children. So, in order to do that, and do it effectively, knowledge of BSL will be so valuable! I took some basic classes in primary school, as one of my classmates was deaf, so I have been able to fingerspell for years, but not much more! So, why not, as we have such an abundance of free time at the minute, use it productively and sign up for a BSL course? So far, so good! I am thoroughly enjoying this process and am really looking forward to using sign language in my day to day life.
  2. hi just starting to learn and great feeling when i can understand a sign! Work in a library, which at the moment is closed, so i'm taking the opportunity to do something i've wanted to do for a long time - learn sign language
  3. Hey Everyone - Laura here! I have always wanted to develop my skills of sign language for the last year. I know some basic Makaton through working as a TA in SEN Schools but I thought this is the perfect time to start a new challenge and learn the language of BSL! I am very excited to be a part of this, it is already all very helpful to me!
  4. Hi my name is Ariane I am new to BSL. I live in Manchester I work in a nusery. I wanted to learn BSL for some time. So I can communicate with others and use sign with children to help and support them. Also I find it fascinating the way BSL is used. I look forward where this journey will take me and using BSL in my daily life when I am more confident

    Intro

I have thought about learning BSL many years ago but was confused with all the variations, now my daughter has met a deaf mute friend and is learning BSL along with her son very well, I don't see him often but want to slowly study and learn to help communicate the best I can, it has only been a week and I find it very interesting and fun to learn. Once I have leant enough I hope to try signing to other on here if possible. thank you Paul.
  7. Hi. I’m sharna. I wear hearing aids as I am hard of hearing and because of that I’ve always wanted to learn bsl but the courses are very expensive and I tried with just an online course but then I couldn’t practice with people which is what I want (otherwise it’ll be like in one ear and out the other but about eyes instead of ears. Also - I made an ear joke haha - not wanting to offend anyone by that though If you can’t laugh...) I really want it as a second language to the point of I can do it without much thought like I do with English. And hopefully I’ll make friends. Nice to meet you all
  8. Hello everyone i'm pretty new to bsl but would love to learn it. It would help in my job in case i get any deaf customers , it would also be good if i made any deaf friends. If anybody is up for helping me , i'm not straight forward with video call but i'd like to talk about stuff more before i do as i have anxiety and it's a little difficult to video call with a stranger haha. Thanks for taking your time to read this!
  9. Hi there, I am new to BSL. I've just learnt how to do the alphabet and some numbers. I am a keen learner and would like someone who is more advanced to support me in learning BSL please? I'd be very grateful. Thank you for reading. Sully
