Hi Tals,

I am also looking for someone to practice with, I have recently started BSL level 2 and have realised I really need to practice my receptive skills!

Let me know if you want to set something up.

Good Morning,

I am currently doing my BSL level 1 and looking for someone to practice with, I am free most evenings unless work priorities pull me away

Ideally looking to meet someone on Skype each day in the evenings for a couple of weeks to go through all Level 1 content and practice together.

Thank you in advanced

Looks like we are all struggling to find practice :) I have yet to see anyone in the beginners room when I'm online.

I am also new and think practise with someone is the best way to get use to signing, assuming that we do the signs right :)

Again due to work etc I will only be free on video chat Tuesday's around 6.30pm maybe for half hour.

Fingers crossed¬†ūüĎć

Paul.

Hiya. I'm currently doing BSL level 1, and I would quite like to practice with someone, but being quite a young person I am worried about the safety implications of the online chats. Has anyone ever had a bad experience on the chat before? I know that it's not the nicest thing to be asking, but you can't be too careful¬†ūüėČ

Hi Fleur

I maybe the oldest person on here and as yet have not had an opportunity to practice, however I believe that there is a facility to report a user, which then issues warnings or ban's them. plus if it was more serious you would have evidence to pass to the police.

Am sure someone else on here will be able to help you with the safety implications, it will be interesting to see how secure it is. :)

    • hello everyone, I went on an an introduction course to BSL last week and now I am hooked! Unfortunately I have since fractured my wrist so am hindered somewhat, but still very eager to learn more and improve. ¬†Please say hi! ¬†
    • English:
Mickey, you must = You have to // It is obligatory // There is no choice
Mickey, you must not = You are not allowed to // It is against the rules

      German:
River, you must (Du musst) = You have to // It is obligatory // There is no choice
River, you must not (Du musst nicht) = You don't have to // It is not obligatory // There is a choice

Which is it in BSL, like English or German? Or maybe neither?
    • In English, one of the ways to ask a question is to invert the subject and the verb. For example: statement = "You can help me Nardole." >> question "Can you help me Nardole?".

      In BSL, is the structure:
      a) CAN YOU HELP ME ?
      b) YOU CAN HELP ME ?
      c) YOU HELP ME ?
      d) Something else?
    • These¬†are¬†basically all the signs i know so far, and i don't know if they were all correct¬†or communicated properly. But what I'm trying to say in the video is: Hi! My name is Noah. I live in Sweden. I want to learn BSL because i want to live in the UK. I am hearing¬†but sometimes i feel too exhausted to¬†speak¬†and sometimes¬†loud noises (listening to any sound) hurts my ear, because i'm autistic. And sometimes i want to sign and not having to¬†speak¬†(or listen).¬†So this is an experiment (to try using signs sometimes instead). If you want to contact me, please contact me! Thank you and good night! Bye!
    • Hi! I'm Noah, I'm 22 years old and¬†from Sweden! I've been wanting to learn a bit of sign language as sort of an experiment for myself. I'm hearing, and currently haven't got any signing friends. But I'm autistic and find that sometimes when I'm exhausted either from too much sensory stimulation such as sound, or socially, I¬†just wish I¬†could communicate without having to formulate sounds or listen to them if they have a certain tone that for some reason hurts my ears at that moment. I don't know it I'll be able to keep the knowledge of BSL up,¬†now that I¬†don't have anyone to practice with and¬†live i Sweden - but I¬†want to try. It made more sense to me to practice BSL instead of Swedish sign language, because I want to live in the UK eventually and get more integrated British culture. And¬†now hopefully I have the chance to get to know som British or Irish folks!
    • Hello I am on the assessment for chapter 9 of basic BSL course. This sign came up in the assessment but I can't find it in the learning. It also does not tell you the right answer after the test it just shows its wrong. If you know I would be very grateful. I have taken a screen grab of it in case I sign it wrong.¬† ¬†
    • Not sure if a reply almost¬†a year later is much use but if you're interested, @hannahtheOT on Twitter is a hearing¬†occupational therapist who works in a Deaf mental health ward!¬† ¬† ¬†
