Does anyone actually use this Website???

Recommended Posts

Does anyone actually use this website to communicate with each other? Every time I am on a rarely see others post or commune with each other or occupy the video chat rooms.

Currently I have hit a wall in my lessons and would like to actually try to practice beginner sign language with another user. I have learned the majority of the signs from the now completed course, give or take a few. And would like to practice full conversation with other individuals (questions, day to day talk, how to correctly sign this particular sentence, etc).

Thanks for taking the time to read this. And please reach out if interested.

I try come on weekly if I can I've passed my level three. It depends what's going on in my life. Maybe a Facebook group would work better? We may get more people to practice with also. I've just created a group on Facebook called BSL forum if anyone wants to join 😊

hey, I am pretty new to this also. I think the only way I will remember all the signing is if I put it into use. I feel like I have forgotten all i've learnt so far!

I am going to keep coming on here and replying to some video etc hopefully that will help 🥴

Hi Naomi,

I have done the beginners course and thought it went well but I seemed to have forgotten loads. so I am now going to re do all the course as well as doing lots more online. So I have now signed up to these chat rooms in hoping I will be able to practise with other beginners ☺️

Maxine, how far have you got with the course so far? I'm very early on. are you finding it harder to make signs or read them?

Hi! I'm new and I just posted a thread in the introductions section. I'm only on the very first lesson of my course, so I'm not really at a level to practice with someone else yet! But hopefully as I progress through the lessons, eventually I'll get good enough to maybe practice through video chat or something. The course recommended me to only do one new lesson a week, though, so it might take a while ...

Good morning all. I can do an hour on Saturday (I told the wife she can play on my Nintendo Switch during this time 😛 ).

What time(s) work best for you? I can also host using my work Webex account so will just need email addresses for all those that would like to join.

    • It's a bit late to reply, though I think Let's Sign BSL Dictionary is one of the more impressive sign dictionaries.  ASL has "The Gallaudet Children’s Dictionary of American Sign Language" and the ISL(Irish) dictionary includes the first page with the alphabet, the explains each further sign with the alphabet introduced on the first page.  A good dictionary can be a good book I think. I only just noticed no one had answered your question, so I thought I might.
    • Hi all, hoping that you are really well. I undertook a BSL course around 25 years ago. I now have a little boy who requires us to sign to help him with his day to day life. It's surprising how much is coming back to me and how much I enjoy it!. Hoping that today is a good day for you :)
    • It's great that you're going BSL, I'm sure you'll find friends with it. I haven't had any real conversations in sign language, I only picked ISL because it looked fun.  I do hope to finish the last class in the next month.  Thank you for the encouragement. I actually find Braille more testable since those I know aren't too interested in sign.  Braille is quite fun now with the different English and universal ones to learn, grade 1, 2, 3, UEB, math, and music.  It's nice to read dual te
    • Hey! What a lovely email to receive:)Thank you. I did do a short course in NZSL but it is obviously very similar to Auslan so I thought BSL users are a much larger community so went that way instead! I would encourage you to learn more ISL ( perhaps assuming wrongly you mean Irish Sign Language?) such a wonderful skill to have signed languages.  Thanks for contacting me:). Emma.
    • My name is Mary and I am based in Nottingham. Working in the healthcare means i interact with people with hearing impairment and so learning BSL will help me to effectively communicate with people within the Deaf community.
    • Hope you achieved it.  Làmh and Makaton are basically the same thing, but why not just stick to ISL/BSL?  There's so many signs to learn over time, why complicate it? However.  Làmh at least does have an app of games to learn Làmh called Làmh Time with a video dictionary of over a 100 signs.  Also, Vimeo has 2 DVDs copied that are songs using Làmh for learning Làmh.  It's not the same, and it would give you a basis of Irish Sign Language, but I think from a cost point of view, Làmh is more
